Sioux

I did not wait the arrival of hot weather to go hunting for t-shirts: this year I want them with black and white prints, glamour but easy to wear, and... I want several of them!

When Benedetta, better known as Sioux, told me about her t-shirts, I was so curious, and when I’ve known one of them represented a cameo, I decided I’d got to have it: a t-shirt matching my granma’s inherited cameo! Normally you match jewelry to dresses, well, from now on I’ll match my clothes to my jewelry!

Non ho aspettato che facesse caldo per partire a caccia di magliette : quest’anno le voglio con delle stampe in bianco e nero, glamour ma semplici da portare, e… ne voglio diverse!

Quando Benedetta, che conoscete meglio come Sioux, mi ha parlato delle sue t-shirt, ero troppo curiosa, e quando ho saputo che una di esse rappresentava un cameo, ho deciso che dovevo averla : una t-shirt abbinata al cameo ereditato da mia nonna! Di solito si abbinano i gioielli ai vestiti, beh, ormai io abbinerò i miei vestiti ai miei gioielli!

Once the longed-for t-shirt had been at home, I tried it with lots of clothes, and it matched everything: blazer for a chic look, jeans shorts like here and here for a rock effect, or skirt for a more romantic version. I just found the perfect black skirt, and here I am in the deep Italian countryside along a canal where you only find elderly people by bike (who all looked at my hat... what’s wrong with my hat?).

So, behind Sioux, there’s Benedetta, the stylist, and Barbara, the graphic designer, two Milan friends who created trompe l’oeil t-shirts in a surreal and oniric way, and a bag, a quotation of Alexander Wang’s one (in a much cheaper version). It’s not by chance our two friends chose a post stamp as the brand’s logo: they’re travel passionate and they have been inspired by the fashion they noticed in Paris, Berlin and London, and even in Alice in Wonderland’s world, in order to create their collection.

Fate does well his business, and I realized while I was writing this post that today is Benedetta-Sioux’s birthday! Greetings and congratulations for this superb collection!

Una volta che la desiderata t-shirt era a casa, l’ho provata con un sacco di cose, e stava bene con tutto : blazer per un look chic, shorts di jeans come qui e qui per un effetto rock, o gonna per una versione più romantica. Ho appunto appena trovato la gonna nera perfetta, ed eccomi nel Piemonte profondo lungo un canale dove si incrociano solo vecchietti in bicicletta (che guardavano tutti il mio cappello… ma che cos’ha il mio cappello?).

Insomma, dietro a Sioux, ci sono Benedetta la stilista e Barbara la graphic designer, due amiche milanesi che hanno creato delle t-shirt con trompe l’oeil in modo un po’ surreale ed onirico, e una borsa, citazione di quella di Alexander Wang (in versione molto-meno-cara). Non è un caso se le nostre due amiche hanno scelto un timbro postale come logo della marca: appassionate di viaggi, si sono ispirate alla moda che hanno visto a Parigi, Berlino e Londra, e anche al mondo di "Alice in Wonderland" per creare la loro collezione.

Il caso fa bene le cose, e mentre stavo scrivendo questo post, mi sono accorta che oggi è il compleanno di Benedetta-Sioux ! Auguri e complimenti per questa splendida collezione !

Little Style Box

Little Style Box is:

• purely Paris streetstyle;

• the best Paris’ shopping addresses (it’s my official guide: vintage shops, young (or not) French stylists, highlights of any kind that are presented so well you just want to jump on the next TGV to Paris), and a map so well done that even she who has my (completely unexistent) sense of orienteering can find the shops quoted in the blog.

Birds

I read on the delicious blog The Cupcake Diary that Barbie created the Mad Men collection: there's no doubt these Barbies are a little smarter than the ones I had when I was a child, in the 80s (the pink body with purple heels, glups). Besides, I've just seen the Mad Men birds of Little Doodles: they are adorable, aren't they? Birds illustrated by Kate are always tender and ironic at the same time!

Ho letto sul delizioso blog The Cupcake Diary che Barbie ha creato la collezione Mad Men: non c'è dubbio che queste Barbie siano un po' più chic di quelle che avevo da bambina, negli anni 80 (la tuta rosa fluo con tacchi viola, glups). Inoltre ho appena visto gli uccelli Mad Men di Little Doodles: non sono adorabili? Gli uccelli illustrati da Kate sono sempre teneri e ironici al tempo stesso!

By the way, lately I've seen some dresses with naif birds prints, a bit like those that were popular in the 70s. It made me think my sister has got two Toposhop dresses of this kind, and I stole them (together with her boots and ankle boots, that I serioulsy plan to steal).

A questo proposito, ultimamente ho visto degli abiti con delle stampe un po'naif di uccelli, un po'come quelli che c'erano negli anni 70. Mi ha fatto pensare che mia sorella ha due abiti Topshop del genere, e glieli ho rubati (insieme ai suoi stivali e ankle boots, che sogno di rubare sul serio).

Speaking to some French girl, who says she knows me well

There’s nothing to do it’s stronger than me: even if I struggle to make my style the most personal I can, I often reveal the French inside of me. The point is the majority of my clothes not belonging to the sacred trio (vintage, Zara, H&M) are French. So, from time to time I dress as a French from head to toe, and it suits my accent very well, believe me (only the baguette under my arm is missing).

Niente da fare, è più forte di me: nonostante provi a rendere il mio stile il più personale possibile, torno spesso ad essere la francese che sono. È che la quasi totalità dei miei vestiti che non appartengono al trio sacro (vintage, Zara, H&M) sono francesi. Così ogni tanto mi vesto da francese dalla testa ai piedi, cosa che sta molto bene con il mio accento, credetemi (manca solo la baguette sotto il braccio).

Last Sunday, satisfied to be masked as a French, I go to Gran Balon, I buy a red hat, I take some photos in front of a brick wall and on the rails, just to give the old women on the bench some topic to tattle on, I put everything on my pc and what do I see the day after? Calivintage dressed the same way! Could it be that Calivintage is French?

At this point, I remember that Lullu Letty too has got a red hat. I go to look for it on her blog and what do I see? I’m dressed just like her! Could it be that Lullu Letty is French?
I start to wonder if it’s me that could be american instead. Or maybe even fashionable (it’s not every day).

Soddisfatta di essere travestita da francese, domenica scorsa me ne vado al Balon, compro un cappello rosso, faccio delle foto davanti ad un muro di mattoni e sulla ferrovia per dare un argomento di pettegolezzi alle vecchiette che prendono il sole su una panchina, carico il tutto nel computer, e cosa vedo l’indomani ? Calivintage vestita nello stesso modo ! Calivintage sarebbe per caso francese ?

A questo punto, ricordo che anche Lullu Letty ha un cappello rosso. Vado a cercarlo nel suo blog, e cosa vedo? Che sono vestita uguale a lei! Lullu Letty sarebbe francese?
Insomma, comincio a chiedermi se non sarei americana io piuttosto. O forse addiritura alla moda (non capita tutti i giorni).

Una domenica al Gran Balon

Some of you already know about my passion for flea markets, particularly for Turin’s Gran Balon, which is in my hometown. I’m lucky to have this flea market near my home, because it’s immense (really immense!), and it’s really a flea market: there’s no Chinese cheap stuff, candies and so on: here we are purists!

Certi di voi sanno già della mia passione per i mercatini delle pulci, in particolare per il Gran Balon, che appunto si svolge nella mia città. Sono fortunata di avere questo mercatino vicino a casa, perché è immenso (ma immenso!), e si tratta di vere pulci: niente bancarelle dei cinesi, caramelle e altre cose di simili mercati: qui siamo puristi!

Last Sunday I finally got out of my winter apathy to go spend a beautiful sunny morning together with Miss Cici, a Turin “adopted” like me, and an exceptional photographer (not like me). It was our first meeting after almost one year of blogging friendship, and our Miss Cici was exactly like I expected: solar, cultivated, adorable!

We walked through antique furniture, old records, books and jewels, typing machines that Miss Cici loves, grandma’s mugs, fifties lamps, tailor’s dummies, turned-yellow postcards, toys, record players, hats and turbans, vintage dresses and other objects of any kind, from wooden skis to other eras’ flippers. I found a beautiful red hat I’ll show you tomorrow, a lady’s scarf because I wanted a lady’s scarf, and a red necklace, big and strange (what a nice description. I’ll take a photo).

From when I discovered Gran Balon on, a couple of years ago, it has become a monthly date I cannot miss (hem hem… in wintertime I just stay in front of my fireplace (do I have a fireplace?) with my cat (do I own a cat?), but let’s say it has become a monthly date I cannot miss from march to November. Besides heteroclite objects ad vintage dresses, the atmosphere alone is worth a visit, an atmosphere which recalls me the “puces de Vanves” in Paris and which recalls Portobello market to Miss Cici.

Two advices? 1/ Go see Gran Balon (every second Sunday of each month), it’s worth the trip even if you don’t live in Turin. 2/ Go visit Miss Cici’s blog! She’s a photography passionate, I follow her from last year and she’s a true friend by now!

Domenica, sono finalmente uscita del mio torpore invernale per andare a passare una bellissima mattinata soleggiata al Balon in compagnia di Miss Cici, come me torinese d’adozione, e contrariamente a me bravissima fotografa. Era il nostro primo incontro dopo quasi un anno di amicizia bloggesca, e la nostra Miss Cici era come me lo aspettavo: solare, colta, adorabile!

Abbiamo passeggiato fra i mobili antichi, vecchi dischi, libri e gioielli, macchine da scrivere che adora Miss Cici, tazze della nonna, lampade degli anni 50’, manichini, cartoline ingiallite, giochi, giradischi, cappelli e turbanti, vestiti vintage ed altri oggetti in ogni genere, dai sci di legno ai flipper di un’altra epoca. Ho trovato un bellissimo cappello rosso che vi mostrerò domani, un foulard da signora perché volevo un foulard da signora, e una collana rossa, grande e strana (che bella descrizione. Farò una foto).

Da quando ho scoperto il Balon un paio di anni fa, è diventata un’uscita mensile che non posso perdere (hem hem… in inverno sto davanti al camino (ho un camino?) con il gatto (ho un gatto?), ma diciamo che è diventata un’uscita mensile che non posso perdere da marzo a novembre. Oltre agli oggetti eterocliti e ai vestiti vintage, l’atmosfera stessa vale la pena della passeggiata, un’atmosfera che mi ricorda le “puces de Vanves” a Parigi e che ricorda il mercato di Portobello a Miss Cici.

Due consigli? 1/Andate al Gran Balon (ogni seconda domenica del mese), vale il viaggio anche se non abitate Torino. 2/ Andate sul blog di Miss Cici! È una ragazza appassionata di fotografia, la seguo dall’anno scorso e ormai è un’amica vera!

Lo stile resiste

Sabato il signore del delitto ed io stavamo tranquillamente passeggiando per le vie e i castelli di Torino quando abbiamo scoperto che, con la bella stagione, l’invasione della città da parte delle turiste francesi è ricominciata! Anzi, si tratta dell’invasione di Torino da tutta l’Europa (40 turisti al metro quadro, e altrettanto macchine fotografiche), come incredibilmente non si vede su queste foto.

Abbiamo deciso di imitare i turisti facendo qualche foto da turista: il castello del re! L’avevo fotografato per la prima volta nel luglio del 2001, all’epoca in cui ero una vera turista francese!

Last Saturday Mr. Del Delitto and I were gently walking through the streets ant the castles of Turin, when we discovered that, with springtime, the city’s French tourists invasion has begun again!
To tell the truth, it’s an invasion of tourists from all over Europe (40 tourists per square meter, and the same number of cameras!), like you cannot (incredibly) see in these pictures.

We decided to look like tourists, taking some tourist-like photo: the king’s castle! The first time I took a picture of it was in july 2001, when I was a true French tourist!

Non vi ho mai detto che scrivo sui muri? Esclusivamente con colori abbinati ai miei trench ovviamente.
Scrivo anche sui blog degli altri! Mi potete ritrovare su ItBF e su MgMagazine!

Italian women according to Accro de la Mode / Le italiane secondo Accro de la Mode

"Armani sarà sempre Armani" ama dire Monica.

Avete già fatto un complimento sulla mise di una francese? E cosa vi ha risposto? "Oh! Non è niente, mi sono vestita in fretta" o ancora: "questa gonna? L'ho trovata in un negozietto senza interesse". Anche se la francese ha studiato il suo stile (in ben 50% dei casi), non lo confesserà mai, tranne testimoniando in modo anonimo!

Ecco perché la francese è così tanto affascinata dall'italiana: elegante, raffinata, spesso un pelo too much per i nostri criteri, è perfetta in ogni circostanza e non nasconde di curare la sua apparenza. Ovviamente noi francesi non possiamo rimanere indifferenti davanti ad una tale classe! Soprattutto Isabelle, la talentuosa illustratrice di Accro de la Mode, che vive a due passi dell'Italia e ha quindi spesso l'occasione di ammirare lo stile italiano... con lo sguardo di una francese.

Isabelle cerca lo stile ovunque: per la strada, all'aeroporto o al mercato, e disegna col suo tratto molto riconoscibile le donne magre e tonde, giovani e vecchie, le mamme con bambini e le redattrici di moda. Isabelle è una streetstyler dell'illustrazione e apre l'occhio in ogni luogo!

Ovviamente le italiane non potevano che piacerle. Ogni weekend, prende la moto e se ne va in Italia a bere un caffè o comprare Velvet o Vogue, e quando nota una ragazza stilosa, la disegna con tenerezza e umorismo, con tanto di dettagli sotto per scritto.

Have you already congratulated a French woman for her outfit? And what did she answer? "Oh! It's nothing, I just dressed up quickly" or "this skirt? I found it in an uninteresting little shop". Even if the French has studied her style (in at least 50% of the times), she would never confess it, but in an anonymous way!

That's why the French woman is so fascinated by the Italian one: elegant, cultivated, often a bit "too much" for our standards, she is perfect under any circumstance, and she does not conceal to care about her look. Obviously, we French people cannot remain indifferent to such class! Isabelle overall, the talented illustrator of Accro de la Mode, who lives so close to Italy and so has the opportunity to admire Italian style...with a French glance.

Isabelle looks for style everywhere: in the streets, at the airport or at the market, and she draws with her very recognisable style women of every kind, the thin and the round, the young and the elder, the mother with children and the fashion journalists. Isabelle is a streetstyler of illustrations, and her look is everywhere alert!

Obviously she could not but like Italian women. Every weekend, she rides her bike and she goes to Italy to drink a coffee or buy some magazines like Velvet or Vogue, and when she notices a stylish woman, she draws her with tenderness and humor, with some details written beneath.

Ultimo incontro, due amiche "gemelle" viste sulla spiaggia: stessa mise, stesse scarpe (che ho visto su numerosi blog italiani questo inverno), stessa posizione, stessa musica... non sono fantastiche?

Last meeting, two "twin" friends, seen on the beach: same outfit, same shoes (which I saw on a number of Italian blogs this winter), same position, same music.. aren't they terrific?


A proposito di amiche uguali, cosa dire di queste due sciattrici che si fanno abbronzare con l'aiuto di uno specchio? Talking about alike friends, what can we say about these two skiers who sunbath with the help of a mirror? I remember I was struck by this illustration when I first saw it last year. I said no, it's not possible someone REALLY does this! Certalinly yes, Mr. Del Delitto answered me, my personal consultant on Italian culture. Me too I've seen many women sunbathing with a mirror! (Ah????)

Meglio ancora, questa suora italiana con la sua borsa Sonia Rykiel! La descrizione di Isabelle potrebbe essere la conclusione:

"Visto a Menton: una religiosa italiana con la sua borsa SONIA RYKIEL... per quanto riguarda lo stile, ci battono tutte (le italiane, non le religiose)."

… ho letto sul Elle Italia già qualche tempo fa. Vi posso dire che una tale dichiarazione, fa pensare! E sapete cosa? Sono piuttosto d’accordo! D’altronde quando ho incontrato il Signore del Delitto anni fa, gli ho fatto discretamente qualche domanda: guardi il calcio in TV ? Vai a caccia? (???) Chiami tua madre tutti i giorni ?

… I read on Elle Italy some time ago. I can tell you a declaration like that, it makes you think! And you know what? I do agree! In fact, when I met Mr. Del Delitto years ago, I discretely asked him a couple of questions: do you watch football on tv? Do you go hunting? (???) Do you call your mother every day?

Due possibilità:
1/ è un bugiardo (soluzione molto probabile), ma non ti vorrebbe deludere (sei bella) (attenzione comunque: l’homo sapiens è Homer Simpson).
2/ Ha detto la verità! Congratulazioni! Hai (forse) trovato l’uomo al di là dell’homo sapiens !

There’s two possibilities:
1/ he’s a liar (most probably), but he’s not willing to disappoint you (you are beautiful) (beware, anyway: the homo sapiens is Homer Simpson).
2/ he told the truth! Congrats! You (maybe) found the man beyond homo sapiens!

Mr. Del Delitto answered no to each question and I put a wedding ring around his finger! Poor him!

Per tornare alle varie dichiarazioni delle riviste, ho letto sul Glamour Francia di marzo un articolo molto simpatico di streetstyle sui diversi stili dell’uomo perfetto di oggi. Era interessante, gli uomini fotografati avevano dei nomi divertenti (Tancrède, Cody, Helmi) ma era soprattutto molto francese. Nonostante ciò, sono riuscita a trovare più o meno lo stile corrispondente al Signore del Delitto: l’uomo folk (ho detto più o meno, ma sapete, fra il kid hip hop e il neo-borghese, preferisco ancora l’uomo folk).

Going back to various magazine’s declarations, I read on Glamour France’s march issue a very nice article about streetstyle, on the different styles of today’s perfect man. It was interesting, the photographed men had weird names (Tancrède, Cody, Helmi), but most of all it was really French. Nonetheless, I managed to find more or less the style corresponding to Mr. Del Delitto: the folk man (I said more or less, you know, between the hip hop kid and the new bourgoise, I still prefer the folk man).
